Maybe so, said Johnny Taylor Jr., president and CEO of SHRM, during his keynote speech for the association’s annual conference. Company leaders struggle to see the value in the department, especially as artificial intelligence swiftly changes the face of work, he said — meaning HR will need to learn how to fight for its human workers.

A company’s first point of contact with a recruiter is when onboarding truly begins, Gainor told HR Dive — and after that, it never truly ends. The more formal aspects of onboarding programs should also be on regular maintenance schedules to ensure content is up-to-date and relevant, she said.
